Stories and Inspiration

“At this particular moment in world history, we are witnessing forces that are driving us apart – nationalism, distrust, bigotry. One of the deeply gratifying values that all of us involved in this work embrace is our shared humanity, caring for one another – in particular our shared commitment to our children, and to those who care for them. From Dayton, to Alice Springs, Sophia, Oslo, and Glasgow, we are making the world a better place — together.”

Nurstory

Since 2019, the National Service Office has partnered with Nurstory to enable NFP nurses and nurse supervisors to come together to remember and crystallize stories of how and why they do the work they do and what care really means in their work. The approach aims to increase resilience for the participants and help them process both first-hand and vicarious trauma they are exposed to in their practice. Short videos are produced by participants to capture and share their stories. You can find a selection of these videos and more information about the process here

The film follows Lori Rogers, an NFP nurse from Nurse-Family Partnership at Gift of Life in Montgomery, Alabama and shows a window into her visits with Breanna and Latreta. Correspondent Stephanie Sy interviews the two NFP moms to learn more about their everyday challenges and what it’s meant for them to have a supportive relationship with their NFP nurse Lori.

“It wasn’t even just she was here as a nurse, she was here like a mom, like a second mom. So everything she ever told me, everything she ever gave … even a little care, made me feel like I was loved by many.”
